One of St. Paul's Family Resources Institute's (FRI) most successful programs has been the John Umlah Memorial Community Garden which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this summer (2013). Over the past 20 years, we have been providing the community with garden plots, facilities, and equipment needed to grow safe, organic produce for their families. In addition to growing their own food, our gardeners and the children from our summer day camp, participate in growing food which is then harvested and directly distributed to participants of St. Paul's Family Resources' food bank or to be used in collective kitchens. Collective Kitchen teaches budgeting and cooking skills to participants. The garden gives the gardeners a social outlet and teaches new skills and advocates for a healthy lifestyle.
